ABOUT KIM SULLIVAN

Kim Sullivan is Mr. Lewis’ real owner.  An experienced special education teacher and professional counseling intern, Kim understands that children often have difficulty putting their thoughts and feelings into words that we adults can understand.  Kim wrote Mr. Lewis Finds a Home with the intention of helping kids to deal with change.  Other books are also planned which will address other childhood concerns such as bullying and stage-fright.

Kim and her family are long-time residents of Central Texas.  She earned her BS in Secondary Science Education from The University of Texas in Austin in 1986, later expanding her certifications to include Elementary Education, Special Education, and Art Education.  In May 2015 Kim graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos, earning her MA in Professional Counseling.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern (LPC-Intern) and National Certified Counselor (NCC), Kim is currently completing her hours under the supervision of Dr. Joey Achacoso at the Central Texas Play Therapy Center in Pflugerville, Texas.  Once completed, Kim will also be eligible to become a Registered Play Therapist.  With the help of Lewis and Rocky, she plans to incorporate animal assisted play therapy into her counseling practice, while continuing to produce future additions to the "Mr. Lewis" book series.
Lewis the Donkey

Lewis is a Miniature Mediterranean Donkey.  At only 34 inches in hight, he is a little donkey with a huge heart.

We don't know Lewis' actual birthdate, but he was born sometime in 2000.  Instead of a birthday, Lewis celebrates his "Gotcha Day," the day that he came to live in his current home, on August 24, 2007.

Lewis began his therapy career by volunteering with local animal-assisted therapy organizations such as Minis and Friends, Northwind Farm, and Austin Dog Alliance.  In January 2015, he passed the required evaluations and now vlounteers with Kim as a Pet Partners registered team, becoming one of the first non-canine members of Therapy Dogs of Georgetown.

A technologically savvy donkey, Lewis has befriended people and animals from all over the world through the magic of social media.  He can be found on his very own Facebook fan page,   Just search for "Lewis The Donkey."

Rocky the Horse

Rocky is a Class B Miniature Horse.  He stands a bit taller than Lewis, pushing a bit past 38 inches at his withers.

Rocky was bought at an auction by his previous owner.  When he didn't work out for her, Kim bought him.  At first he was bully to everyone in the pasture - keeping the horses away from their food and making poor Lewis stay at the far end of the pasture.

Rocky was also fearful of people, refusing to be caught or touched.  With patience and work, he has learned to trust again.  Although he has kept his dominant personality, Rocky and Lewis are now pasture buddies and have becomed quite attached to each other.  Rocky has shown himself to have a strong connection for children with special needs.  Like Lewis, Rocky passed all of his evaluations in January 2015.  He and Kim are a registered Pet Partners team, part of Therapy Dogs of Georgetown.
